The Jacks Fork is a class I/II river located in Southeast Missouri and is part of the Ozark National Scenic Riverways. It flows 49 miles from the confluence of the North Prong and South Prong to the Current River. The first 25 miles from the confluence of the North and South Prongs to Bay Creek is only floatable during spring time and can produce class II water due to its deep valley known as the Lower Ozark Natural Division. From Alley Spring to the confluence of the Current River, it is a class I river and is floatable year round due to Alley Spring. Alley Spring is the 7th largest spring in Missouri, discharging 81 million gallons of cold water per day. Alley Spring has such a historic and cultural impact on Missouri that Alley Mill and Spring are shown on the US Quarter representing Missouri, printed in June 2017. The Jacks Fork is most known for its deep and narrow valleys in the upper portion of the river, towering dolomite bluffs, caves, cold clear blue springs, gravel bars, crystal clear water, deep pools, swift currents, wild horses, black bears, historic sites, trails and more. The Jacks Fork is named after a Shawnee native american John Jacks who settled the banks of the river in the 1830s.
